Category Media training
The LMA is the membership organisation for managing agents working in the Lloyd’s of London insurance market. It is the role of the LMA to promote the interests of members in matters affecting the market. In order to more effectively represent its members, the LMA decided it would be beneficial to have a wider pool of senior executives who could carry out media interviews.
Rein4ce delivered three half day media training sessions for a total of 11 senior LMA members. These involved an overview of the re/insurance media they would be expected to deal with, an explanation of how newspaper and magazines find and create stories, and some practical tips on how to handle media interviews. The sessions, which also focussed on developing key messages for a number of topical issues which affect the LMA, culminated in the executives undergoing mock interviews in front of a video camera. These interviews were played back, and the team were able to offer positive critiques of each performances, which resulted in all of the participants feeling much more positive about doing interviews.
The 11 members of the LMA emerged from the session with a clear understanding of how the media works, what journalists are looking from in interviews, as well having the practical skills and strategies to perform confidently in interviews. Since the training, some of those who took part have represented the LMA successfully in media interviews – fulfilling the organisation’s goal of improving the way it presents the views of its members to the media.
