Last night the Rendez-Vous at Monte Carlo, reinsurance’s big annual conference, kicked off in usual glittering style at the Guy Carpenter party in the Hotel de Paris.
Sipping glasses of Tattinger, the good and the great of the reinsurance world met in the gilded ballroom. Chief executives and presidents rubbed shoulders with brokers and caught up with each other.
Willis Re rebrands and Scor see growth – kind of
Earlier in the day Joe Plumeri unveiled re-branding of Willis Re and Scor declared they were seeing growth – but in a very round-about way admitted that while volumes were up, pricing was down (the explanation took about half an hour and those direct words were never used).
Scor has excelled again in hosting a lovely tent overlooking the sea behind the casino, and my sore head bears witness to a late night.
CEO lunch with PwC – why are markets undervaluing reinsurance stocks?
Today I’m chairing a CEO lunch for PwC, so we will see if pricing and growth are still the big issues of the day and I’m looking forward to hearing why the markets are undervaluing the reinsurance stocks.
So I had better head to the hand-painted sale in the Hermitage where I will try to eat, talk, smile and write at the same time for an hour and a half.
