BIBA 2018 proved insurance can harness hashtags
This year’s British Insurance Brokers Association (BIBA) annual conference has demonstrated how the insurance sector can utilise the power of a hashtag on Twitter.
On the first day of the conference, #BIBA2018 was trending at number three on Twitter. Just to make sure that sinks in, an insurance conference for UK regional insurance brokers was the third most talked about thing on Twitter. That is #amazeballs.
Hashtags as a PR tool for insurance communications
Hashtags are a simple and effective way to reach a specific audience and to promote your brand. They are easily searchable and have the power to connect different audiences and promote engagement to a whole new level.
First of all, everyone needs to know what a hashtag is – after all, the word “hashtag” was only added to the Oxford Dictionary in 2010 and the Scrabble dictionary in 2014. It’s the hash-mark, number, number key/sign or pound sign on your computer, which has now become a way of identifying or searching for topics of interests or linking unique communities together through the use of a single word or phrase. When a hashtag picks up enough momentum, it becomes a “trending” conversation.
#BIBA2018 showed that by creating a unique and simple hashtag, followers can join a conversation and connect with other users, as well as circulate their brand information.
From a business point of view, this offers a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between companies and their intended target markets. Such is the effectiveness of the hashtag, that it is diverging onto other social media platforms. Instagram, Facebook and Google+ all have adopted the hashtag.
Rein4ce attended BIBA and happily jumped on the #BIBA2018 bandwagon. With a few strategic tweets and consistent messages, our Tweets had a reach of more than 72.5k from just 21 tweets.
