  • In a Global Reinsurance article, Gavin Lillywhite, VP, Operating Leader, UKI and Europe at Xceedance, explains why it’s time to stop talking and start acting to improve data quality and accessibility.

    Mr Lillywhite argues that the biggest problem is that the data isn’t clean, complete, structured, and authenticated, or in accessible storage – pointing out that this makes it difficult to integrate it easily and automatically into processes. He explains how technological solutions such as AI and machine learning can automatically ingest, validate, and aggregate data, as well as using clean data to give (re)insurers better insights into risk profiles and performance predictability.

  • The Insurer reports Sirius Point’s announcement that it has expanded its existing partnership with MCA Dupi Nordics into continental Europe.

    Sirius Point has provided capacity to Dupi Nordics, based in Copenhagen, since March 2023. The partnership was previously focused on brown water hull business solely in the Nordics region.

    SiriusPoint has capacity relationships with a number of marine market MGAs, including Ryan Specialty Nordics AB, located in  Stockholm, European boutique MCA Alta Signa’s marine launch, and Hellenic Hull Management.

  • Specialty insurer and reinsurer IQUW has promoted Phil Furlong to the newly created role of Head of Technical Underwriting and Oversight, with Mark McDonach succeeding Furlong as Head of Marine, Energy, and Aviation.

    In his new role, Furlong will oversee underwriting governance and technical standards across the business, while also taking on leadership of the IQUW Claims function.

    Peter Bilsby, Group CEO at IQUW, and to whom Furlong will report, commented on the transition, “These promotions reflect our commitment to recognising and developing talent from within.”

  • Brandon Nuttall, Chief Digital and AI Officer at Xceedance spoke to Insurance Day about how carriers still using legacy technology will struggle to leverage generative AI and other advanced technologies for their multiple use cases, including improving pricing, portfolio management, claims handling and customer service.

    Nuttall makes the point that the extended hard market has masked the problem of both ‘classic’ and ‘modern’ legacy systems: “As the cycle continues to turn, the need to write three times the number of policies and assess three times the volume of submissions to stay in the same place means companies that have failed to update their technology will struggle compared with those that have stayed up to date.”

  • Patrick Charles, Head of P&C Insurance Americas at SiriusPoint, spoke to the Reinsurance Podcast at the TMPAA Mid-Year Meeting (Target Markets) to discuss  the MGA boom, why expert underwriters are breaking out, and how data’s gone from advantage to expectation.

  • SiriusPoint has appointed Philip Enan as its new chief strategy and corporate development officer, effective immediately. Enan, who was previously executive vice president, global corporate development and head of strategic partnerships at Chubb, will be based in New York, joins the executive leadership team and reports directly to CEO Scott Egan.

    “We are excited to welcome Phil to our team as we continue to seek out opportunities for investment and growth. His extensive industry experience and thoughtful approach make him an invaluable addition to our organization,” Egan said.

    In his new role, Enan will lead SiriusPoint’s strategy development and oversee new investment initiatives to support the company’s long-term objectives

  • Fidelis Insurance Group has promoted Hannah Greenwood to chief underwriting officer for its Bermuda operations, from the role of chief of staff, which she held from 2023. Her new role includes responsible for guiding underwriting strategy, enhancing risk management and driving innovation in the Bermuda office. She will oversee Fidelis Bermuda’s underwriting direction and play a key role in supporting the company’s broader strategic goals.

    “I am delighted to announce Hannah’s appointment to CUO for Bermuda,” said Allan Decleir, group chief financial officer and Bermuda chief executive.

    “Her promotion is a direct result of her outstanding business acumen, extensive industry expertise and the strong relationships she has built both within our organisation and across the industry.”

  • AmTrust International has reported steady progress in its Turkish operations, one year after opening its office in Istanbul. This expansion is part of the company’s wider strategy to grow its credit protection and affinity portfolio and improve underwriting performance across key markets.

    Providing support for AmTrust’s expansion in Turkey and surrounding markets, The Istanbul office is led by general manager Erdinc Karayazlik, who has two decades of experience in insurance distribution roles across Turkey, the Middle East, Europe and Africa.

    Bruce Whitmee, CEO of AmTrust Specialty Limited, said the company has made measurable progress over the past year and remains committed to expanding its presence in specialty insurance globally.
